Problems that clients face with this type of injury and what the law says.
Problems with hearing often stem from exposure to loud noise over prolonged periods. People can feel disoriented or have difficulty communicating and this can be very stressful. An award at the bottom end of the scale is likely where the problem is not permanent. Higher compensation awards are likely when the impact of the injury is such that it renders the individual permanently deaf.
When hearing is affected during a child's development, this can sometimes cause problems with speech which can affect learning and development.
